The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with
the poor. (Proverbs, 22:9)
… Do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother... Give
generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this
the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you
put your hand to... Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward
your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land. (Deuterono-
my, 15:7, 10-11)
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to
them receives many curses. (Proverbs, 28:27)
A ruler who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.

If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not
