Celebrities Who Had Surprising Jobs Before They Got Famous.
Whoopi Goldberg worked as a Morgue Beautician (косметолог). She took the
job because she was trained as a beautician. Reportedly (якобы), her boss once
hid (спрятался) in one of the drawers and jumped out at her as a way to
reassure (заверить) her that ‘there’s nothing to be scared of (здесь нечего
бояться).’ Hmm, we wonder how well that worked!

You see, keeping salaries secret leads to (ведёт к тому, что) what economists
call “information asymmetry”. This is a situation where, in a negotiation
(переговоры), one party has loads more information than the other. And in
hiring or promotion or annual (ежегодные) raise discussions (обсуждения
поднятия зарплаты) an employer can use that secrecy to save (сберечь) a lot
