indulge in. This is done by treating themself to something that otherwise, they
could not afford.
Authenticity Matters: Suppose people get fake luxury goods for the same
price as original even. In that case, they won’t buy it (even if they look
identical). This is because they subconsciously know that they don’t own an
original luxury good.
This won’t seem rational, right? If you’re buying luxury goods for the sole
purpose of showing off to others and to get a feeling of belonging, then why
won’t we feel happy or satisfied with the fake?
This is because right from childhood, we’ve been accustomed to this setting.
Even if someone got you your favourite toy which looks identical to the one
you own, you wouldn’t take the new. This is so because you think the second
one is a duplicate. Your sentiments or memory is attached to the first one, and
hence, just like toys, your feelings are attached to a genuine luxury good- this
is why we always seek authenticity.
In other words, for some people, treating yourself to a pair of fake Christian
Louboutin brand boots would be the same thing as having not treated yourself
at all.
