BLACKETT Arnold
Private 23942 Northamptonshire Regiment
Born in Market Harborough in 1897, he was the son of
Christopher and Ada Blackett who lived at New Rose Lodge,
Kings Cliffe and then Cross Leys.
An extract from the Stamford & Rutland News 15th August 1917
reads: –
“Kings Cliffe.....Private Arnold Blackett, of Cross Leys Farm,...also reported
missing....believed wounded and prisoner in Germany.”
He survived his internment and he married Ada Wooton in
Oundle in 1938. His death was registered in Kettering in 1983.
BLAKE Charles William
Possibly Private 203831 Lincolnshire Regiment
Private 159557 Machine Gun Corps
Born in 1896 in Leeds, he was the son of John and Ada Blake
of Leeds.
His father had moved from Kings Cliffe to Leeds to find work and
there met Charles’s mother, Ada. Unfortunately his mother died
in 1907 and Charles came back to Kings Cliffe to live with his
aunt, Charlotte Blake. Information from his great granddaughter,
Susan Blake, tells us that he survived the war, albeit with lung
problems and married Maria Nowell in Gloucestershire in 1921.
They had four children. He eventually died in 1934.
Written with help from Susan Blake, granddaughter of
Charles Blake.
