Born 1897 in Kings Cliffe, Samuel was the eldest son of George
Edward and Jane Blake of West Street, Kings Cliffe.
Just 5’ 4” tall (1.63m), Samuel signed up 30th Nov 1914 at Oundle.
He went to France on 1st September 1916. On 21st April 1917 he
received a gunshot wound to the head, probably at the battle of Arras.
He was invalided back to England and stayed there until 3rd July 1918
when he returned to France. He saw out the rest of the war in France
and returned to England in January 1919. He was discharged on the
17th February 1919 aged 21.
He was considered 50% disabled and awarded 13/9d (£0.69) a week.
On discharge, he gave his address as Telegraph Lane, Kings Cliffe.
He married Ms Harper in September 1922. His death was
registered in Oundle in 1965.

Born in 1887 in Kings Cliffe, he was the son of George and
Elizabeth Bollans of Park Street.
His service records did not survive the archive bombing in WW2.

BOLLANS George John
Private 241949 South Staffordshire Regiment
George was born in 1878 in Kings Cliffe. He was the son of
George and Mrs Elizabeth Bollans of Park Street, Kings Cliffe.
He enlisted 10th December 1915. On enlistment he was 5ft 7in
tall (1.7m) and 39 years old.
George was in France from 31st June 1916 until 28 January
1917. In June of 1917 he was discharged as being no longer
physically fit for war duties. His lack of fitness was due to
nephritis (a serious and potentially fatal kidney problem) caused
