        Kettering

                                                            The Montagu Monuments  (pictured).  In the
                                                            picturesque village of Warkton, on the outskirts of
                                                            Kettering, you might not expect to come across a
                                                            world-class monument in a parish church. Yet at
                                                            St Edmund’s Church you will find four. Located
                                                            near Boughton House in Kettering,
                                                            Northamptonshire, you will find these four hidden
                                                            gems within this beautiful church. Dedicated to
                                                            four members of the Montagu family, the
                                                            monuments are at once beautiful works of art and
        highly important pieces of Britain’s social and artistic history. Sculpted from fine marble, the
        monuments were positioned in four recesses in a purpose built chancel within the church. The first
        two commissions were given to Roubiliac, who was the greatest sculptor to work in eighteenth
        century England.
