To leave the castle make your way downhill following the line of least resistance (i.e. don’t make
any radical turns) going back the way you came.
At the traffic lights turn left s/p “All routes”.
Find your way back from Stirling Castle to the i/s with the A811.
0.0 56.1178,-3.9415 Bear r. on to the A811.
Expert navigator checkpoint: As you make that l. turn, you will have a large stone church on
your r.
17.8 56.0838 -4.3689 At Ballat Crossroads turn l. and follow signs to “Erskine Bridge A811 /
Drymen (B858)”.
11.6 55.9999 / -4.5885 Take the A811 into Balloch at the southern end on Loch Lomond. Turn r.
for the township and lakefront activities.
From Balloch you can go directly to Ayr, giving Glasgow a miss. If that is your preferred option go

take the 1st exit on to the A82 s/p “Glasgow / Erskine Br / Dumbarton / A82:”
8.7 mi 55.9262, -4.4523 Take the off ramp to the A898 s/p “Erskine Bridge A898 / Paisley
(M898)”.
2.5 mi 55.9017, -4.4808 Take the exit ramp towards the M8 following s/p to “Paisley / Glasgow
Airport M8”.
11.5 mi 55.8496 / -4.2822 At Junction 18 remain on the M8 following an overhead sign to “City
Centre / Stirling / Carlisle /Edinburgh / M8”
Cross over the River Clyde into Glasgow.
For parking close to the city centre:
These instructions are a bit complicated, but it is easy to follow.
Remain on the M8 through to Junction 18.
As you approach the junction keep to the left lane ready to exit following s/posts to “Dumbarton
A82”.
