Side trip to Kilchurn Castle


                                                       Rated by some as Britain’s best kept secret, Kilchurcn
                                                       Castle stands starkly beautiful, surrounded by
                                                       mountains on the shores of Loch Awe,   It was built by
                                                       the Campbell clan in the 15th cent.


                                                       56.3942, -4.6261 At the r/bout just through Crianlarich
                                                       take the 2nd exit on to the A82 s/p “Fort William /
                                                       Oban”.


                                                       4.2 mi 56.4389, -4.7165  bear left on to the A85.

        13.1 mi 56.4071, -5.0184  Remain on the A85 for to Kilchurn Castle

         Otherwise continue on towards Glasgow on the A82.


        12.6 mi 56.2520, -4.7092 An Ceann Mor. Climb to the top of this scenic viewpoint where you can
        sit and take in elevated views of Loch Lomond and the surrounding mountains. The climb starts at
        the Inveruglas Visitor Centre. During the summer you can take a ferry ride on the lake across to
        Inversnaid. The ferry service is operated by the Inversnaid Hotel.


        4.0 mi 56.2034, -4.7107 If you have a hankering to visit the Mull of Kintyre, made famous by the
        Paul McCartney song, turn r. in Tarbet on to the A83. It’s 97 miles to Campbelltown at the
        southern tip of the mull, and it takes about 2 1/4 hours.


        7.8 mi 56.1041, -4.6407 Need a break from the road for a while?  Hang a left here and go into the
        pretty little village of Luss.  You might even choose to tarry awhile at the Clan Museum.



          Side trip to Balloch

          32.4 mi 55.9984, -4.5973  At the r/bout take the 1st exit s/p “Stirling A811” and “Balloch” on
          a brown sign.

          Take the A811 into Balloch.


          Visit Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre, Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre.

          Then return to the A811.

        41.1 mi 55.9262 ,-4.4523 Take the off ramp to the A898 s/p “Erskine Bridge A898 / Paisley
        (M898)”. Cross over the bridge and on to the M898.


        Merge on to the A898 and continue on to the M898.

        2.5 mi 55.9017,-4.4808  Take the exit ramp towards the M8 following s/p to “Paisley / Glasgow
        Airport M8”.

        11.5 mi 55.8496,-4.2822 At Junction 18 remain on the M8 following an overhead sign to “City
        Centre / Stirling / Carlisle / Edinburgh / M8”
