GRANULAR LEACHING V MONOLITHIC DIFFUSION
Granular leaching tests are designed for ADVECTIVE FLUX systems dominated by local equilibrium where mass
transfer is governed by sorption / desorption and surface dissolution / precipitation
Solid particle - surface reactions only.
Monolithic leaching tests are designed for DIFFUSIVE FLUX systems where mass transfer is governed by the rate
of movement for contaminants from the bulk to the surface
Internal porosity- contaminants must diffuse to the surface to be
released. Rate of mass transfer governed by physical retardation
(tortuosity).
