Guy Newman achieved the goal we all daydream about, RETIRING!
However, before he left HUB and the Agribusiness & Food practice, he

Jay Virdi; Cannabis CSO or Card Shark…

Last month, our very own Cannabis CSO, Jay Virdi, won a collective
$20K at the Inaugural RiverForce Charity Poker event. “It is quite
the accomplishment and definitely worthy cause,” Jay said.

“As Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith used to say in the hit 80's TV
show The A Team - "You gotta love it when a plan comes together",
as our inaugural charity poker tournament at Planet 13 in Las Vegas
was a huge success! A big part of this success is due to our co-
            sponsors‘.
The goals for the night were simple & clear - 1) Have some fun / play some cards amongst
investors / operators / service providers, etc.in the cannabis space and 2) Raise some $ for 2
highly deserving charities (Big Brothers Big Sisters & the Last Prisoner Project)
On the fun front, the full capacity / sold out playing field surely had their share of laughs during
the event with lively music, delicious pizza and cocktails to entertain while folks chased down
those inside straights and flushes. The venue at Planet13 was an ideal place to host the event, as
many poker participants have never had the opportunity to visit this enormous /one of a kind
dispensary. It was also enjoyable to have our "poker celebrity" host Scotty Nguyen, play some
cards, mingle with all and of course throw out his patented "baby" after each and every
sentence and announcement. Lastly and in terms of the winners, the 1st place trophy went to
Jay Virdi of HUB International, followed by Dan Crittendon of Pleasantries and Andrew Clark
            of Marcum.
On the charity side, we raised over $20,000 for our co-charity recipients - Big Brothers Big
Sisters and the Last Prisoner Project!
Thanks again to everyone who came out to support this fun / worthwhile event. We hope to
build on the success of this event and make it even bigger and better next year.”
