FOREWORD

I would like to start by thanking Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) for giving
me the opportunity to say a few words in this UUM Strategic Plan Phase
III (2021-2025) blueprint. I am truly grateful and honoured.

Over the past few decades, we have witnessed tremendous development
of Malaysia’s higher education system. This is evidenced by significant
gains in student enrolment, global recognition by reputable institutions on
key areas, such as publications, citations, patents, institutional quality, and
many more. These achievements are a testament to drive and innovate
the academic community as a whole, and UUM is no exception. After 36
years of establishment, I am proud to witness how UUM has emerged
from a humble beginning in Sintok to become one of the globally renowned
universities in the areas of business and management. Certainly, this
is not an instantaneous triumph, but the result of a concerted effort in
formulating a well-structured strategic plan and executing it commendably.

Finally, I would like to congratulate UUM for producing this comprehensive
Strategic Plan Phase III (2021-2025) blueprint. Indeed, I am pleased to
observe how the quintuple helix innovation has been embedded in the
blueprint, which is in tandem with the Ministry of Higher Education’s
aspiration, which is to prepare Malaysian youth to thrive in a complex and
ever-changing future. My sincere hope is that this blueprint will equip UUM
for the final leg of its journey towards becoming an Eminent Management
University.
