Phase 1 is determined to go out with a bang and is keep everyone guessing as to who will finish
where in the race for second and fourth. The New Saints started the day in fourth spot, with
the prospect of league leaders Cardiff City Women coming to Park Hall. The hosts stayed
defensively firm for the first half hour, but once the Bluebirds broke through with a goal from
Siobhan Walsh they found their pace and it was swiftly followed by a second from Danielle
Broadhurst and Phoebie Poole bagged a third on half time. Once again the TNS defence kept
Cardiff out for much of the second half until Seren Watkins’ long range shot made it four. TNS
pulled one back through Helen Evans, before Catherine Walsh marked her return from long term
injury with the final goal in injury time.
As TNS dropped points and saw their goal difference shrinking in the North, down South
Pontypridd Utd faced Barry Town Utd, with the Linnets having struggled in the past few weeks
it was the perfect opportunity for Ponty to move into fourth and it was one they didn’t waste. It
took just four minutes for Emily Bayliss to put Ponty ahead with her first goal this season, before
Liv Francis and Holly Broad ensured a three-goal lead going in at half time. Francis got her brace
and after Barry hit back through Taite Trivett, Carys Bufton added her name to the scoresheet
and Alison Witts completed the scoring in a 6-1 victory.
Swansea City faced a trip to Aberystwyth Town, a club who in recent fixtures have
become notorious for taking points of them and initially, it looked like it could be the hosts’ day
to take all three with Emily Thomas opening the scoring on the half hour, but the tables turned
before half time with both Stacey John-Davies and newcomer Lailah Muscat putting the Swans
ahead. History repeated itself however with Amy Jenkins’ 48th minute goal levelling the score
and seeing the points shared, the match finishing 2-2.
