South West League
Torquay Utd picked up the result they needed to clinch the Premier Division title and win
promotion to the National League next season. They required a victory in their final match
against Wootton Bassett Town in order to finish above Bristol Rovers and a first half goal
from Emma Hunt gave them a 1-0 win. Sunday was actually the first time that Torquay had gone
top of the table in the entire season. Sherborne Town have had a good season and it ended on
a winning note, with a 3-2 success away to Liskeard Athletic. Kelly Snook, Jamie Bland and
Lucy Slater were all on target for Sherborne, with Amy Hemingway and Samantha Reid replying.
Stalwart defender Emma Brazell made her last league appearance for Sherborne before
retirement but the Zebras were boosted with the return of Hannah Eglon after nearly three years
out with a serious knee injury. Warminster Town are out of the bottom three after they battled
out a goalless draw with Poole Town.
The Northern Division table gives an incredible appearance as, with just one match to go, the
top four teams are all level on points. A frustrating week for St Vallier saw them draw for the
third match in a row, this time 1-1 with Downend Flyers, but in contrast to their meeting seven
days earlier, this time it was St Vallier who struck late. The prolific Beth Pitman gave Downend a
first half lead which they held until a few minutes from time, when Emma Summerill grabbed an
equaliser for St Vallier. This means that Frampton Rangers need to avoid defeat against
Downend Flyers in order to be crowned Champions but they are yet to beat Downend this season,
and a defeat for Frampton would hand the title to St Vallier.
Western Division Champions Marine Academy Plymouth ended their successful season
with another victory, this time beating Saltash Utd 4-0. The Ashes went into the game needing
a win in order to secure the runners-up spot but a Sam Drewery double, Lily Hamp and Rebekah
Rose gap MAP another three points and ensured that Feniton will finish in second place.
Frampton Rangers' hopes of a trophy treble were brought to an end on Sunday when they
were beaten 3-2 by Feniton in the Divisional Cup. Megan Williams netted twice and Hollie Stone
the other as Feniton came away from the Bristol area with a win for the second week in a row,
whilst Frampton's replies came from Chloe Timbrell and Ruby Michael.
Southern Region League
Ascot Utd ensured that their season turned out to be a successful one as they defeated
Eastleigh 2-0 in the League Cup Final. Late goals from Nicole Brown and Hannah Bennett gave
the Premier Division runners-up the trophy for the first time (see match report).
Meanwhile there was something of a surprise in the Chairman's Cup Final with league
champions Abingdon Utd being beaten on penalties by Division One South side Woking
Ladies following a 2-2 draw (see match report).
West Midlands League
Newly crowned champions Sutton Coldfield Town were unable to finish off their successful
campaign with a win, going down 1-0 in their final match to Worcester City. Holly Rogers
scored the only goal of the game for Worcester, to keep them firmly in the running for the
runners-up spot. Shrewsbury Town are also in the hunt, they won 1-0 as well against
Coundon Court thanks to a second half goal from Zoe Child. Lye Town were a third team to
claim a 1-0 victory on Sunday, Joella Bate netting the only goal of the game past Crusaders.
Solihull Sporting meanwhile defeated Lichfield City 4-2, Lauren Smith hitting a hat-trick
and Ameile Dennis the other for Solihull, with Corinna Williams and Samantha White replying.
After dominating the title race virtually all season, Shifnal Town made sure of the Division
One crown when a goal from Maria Bell gave them a 1-0 win over Tamworth. Shifnal have an
impressive ten point lead over second placed Walsall Wood, who head the running for
runners-up after doubles from Leanne Johnson and Tayler Davies gave them a 4-2 victory away
to Lichfield City Res, who replied through Karen Clough and Chantal Ahmed. AFC Telford
Utd kept up their hopes for a top two finish by winning 2-1 at City of Stoke thanks to Abi Beady
and Hannah Clarke. Macy Isherwood (2), Olivia Mountford (2), Hollie Edwards, Tara Harrison
and Sian McHugh accounted for the goals as Port Vale defeated Walsall Ladies 7-0 and
Coventry City were 2-1 victors at Darlaston Town courtesy of Sandra Dziedzic and Bonnie
Moore.
