Richmond Park 1 Worthing FC Women 8
Worthing powered into the First Round of the
Vitality Women's FA Cup with a dominant
performance against Richmond Park, winning by
eight goals to one. Creating a string of chances
throughout the match, Worthing scored at regular
intervals against spirited opponents who always
tried to play positively and were rewarded with a
       late consolation.
The London & South East Regional League
Division One South hosts forced the first corner of
the match and briefly threatened to strike first but
Worthing were soon moving on to the front foot
with some fluent forward play. Sophie Humphrey
gave the visitors a seventh minute lead with a neat
low finish but Park then resisted well for a good half
hour with keeper Evie Witek having a fine game,
racking up a number of impressive saves. Indya Norton is closed down by Chloe Lelliott

front line eventually told with two late first half strikes
extending the advantage. Rebecca Bell finished from close range, then Emily Linscer rounding
off a lovely passing sequence which found her clear of the Park defence.
Worthing were equally adept at creating chances through open play and via set piece
delivery. The second half was remarkable for a hat-trick of headed goals by Ellie Russell from
right side corners delivered by Georgia Tibble with unerring accuracy to just beyond the far post
for almost identical powerful finishes by the defender.
Russell's triple provided the fourth. fifth and eighth goals for Worthing but inbetween,
there were two super long range strikes from Ella Newman and Chloe Winchester which flew
beyond Witek's dives on 67 and 72 minutes.
Richmond Park had always tried to build from the back with progressive play and had
some success in the final twenty minutes. Lauren Hawkley was impressive with her bravery on
the ball running down the left and Park had a very good spell around the seventy five minute
mark, forcing Worthing keeper Lauren Dolbear into saving from a corner and creating another
       couple of half chances.
However, the biggest cheer of the day was reserved for the 78th minute when another
good passing move opened up the Worthing defence and Hawkley found the right finish to
provide due reward for the hosts.
It was always likely that Worthing, flying high in the LSERL Premier Division, would
provide a big challenge for the lower division hosts and so it proved with the skill and teamwork
of the visitors being most commendable. However, credit was also due for the efforts of the
home team who never let their heads drop. Worthing will face Sutton United in the First Round
       on 13th November.
