Wrexham produced a stunning result in the FAW
Women’s Cup on Sunday, winning 2-1 away to top flight
side The New Saints to reach the quarter finals.
Rebecca Pritchard scored the opening goal in the
win and she described it as a ‘massive result’ and, whilst
looking forward to their quarter final, admitted that the
team are determined to go one better in their division
this season:
WSS: Congratulations on a great Cup win for
you on Sunday, how big a result do you feel it
was for the club?
RP: Thank you, yes a massive result for the club, it
shows how far we've come and can compete with teams
in the Adran Premier, hopefully we can keep progressing in the Cup with the final
obviously being the aim.
WSS: You got off to a fantastic start with two early goals, did you always feel
in control from that point despite conceding the late goal?
RP: Getting a two-goal lead really helped and made it very hard for TNS to get back in
the game, but we had to continue playing at that same standard for the entire 90 minutes
to keep that lead.
WSS: Rosie Hughes will get the headlines by scoring what proved to be the
winner but were there any other players who deserve a mention for their
performance?
RP: You could pick out any player in the team and say they deserved a mention, but Del
Morgan in goal made some outstanding saves to ensure we kept the lead.
WSS: The draw for the quarter finals has landed you another game against
top flight opponents, what are your thoughts about taking on Aberystwyth?
RP: I think if we play at the level we can then we could compete with anyone in the draw,
so I'm looking forward to facing Aberystwyth it will be a good challenge.
WSS: You went very close to winning the league last season and have started
off well this time around, how determined are the team to go one better?
RP: Absolutely, we're all very determined to push for promotion this season and we've got
off to a good start, so we just need to keep pushing and I'm sure we can do it.
WSS: The league has been a little stop-start with a number of cup games
being played, is that a little frustrating or something you are getting used to?
RP: No, I wouldn't say it is frustrating, we're still playing every week against competitive
opposition whether that be in the league or cups.
WSS: If you can win promotion this season, do you think Wrexham can make
an impact at the top level, and how important is it to have a North Wales
team in the top flight?
RP: I think we can make a big impact in the Adran Premier and could compete with
anyone in there. There are a lot of competitive teams in North Wales so it would be nice
to see them competing in the top division alongside us.
