wind in Paisley. Moments later, Fife was again in action, denying the visitors with a smart save down
low with her legs.
The visitors were the closest to opening the scoring in the first half when Rebecka Blomqvist
looked to capitalise on a loose ball in the Scotland box, but her effort struck the crossbar before being
back heeled wide of the mark on the follow up.
Sweden stepped up their intensity and immediately after going close, they again tested Fife
with a swerving shot, angled in from outside the box by Angeldal which the Scotland stopper turned
round her post. With just seconds remaining in the half, somehow Pedro Martinez Losa’s players
managed to dig in and clear an almost certain Sweden goal. With the ball breaking in the six yard box,
a stramash of bodies somehow denied a queue of Swedish players a tap in to the empty net, with
Cuthbert getting the telling touch to clear the danger.
Sweden went close early in the second half as Rytting Kaneryd sent her low shot just wide of
the post. Up the other end of the pitch, Howard went close to making a quick impact off the bench, but
her diving header was blocked by Berglund.
In the 53rd minute, a good chance fell for Scotland when Sweden were unable to fully clear
their lines. Caroline Weir got her shot away but couldn’t test the keeper and shortly after, Lucy
Graham's fierce shot from distance flew just over the bar. Scotland grew in to the match and went
close to taking the lead. Weir whipped in a dangerous free kick, but it narrowly evaded the onrushing
Scotland attack, which needed the slightest of touches to turn it goalbound.
With 20 minutes remaining, the visitors took the lead when substitute Fridolina Rolfo struck
a thunderous effort in to the top corner from the edge of the box.
With just minutes remaining, Sweden doubled their lead when a dangerous ball in to the box
was bundled over the line after unfortunately coming off substitute Sophie Howard and beyond Fife.
