The Vitality Women’s FA Cup
Lichfield City produced one of the performances of the day when
they won 2-1 against Boldmere St Michaels to reach the First
Round Proper for the first time.
Lyndsey Ross and Natasha Lawrence scored the goals to
give the West Midlands League side victory against their high flying
FAWNL Division One Midlands opponents and their reward is a trip to Nottingham Forest
in the next round.
Shrewsbury Town continued their impressive cup run and have now claimed a
National League scalp after beating Wem Town 3-2. Maddie Jones netted two first half goals
and Zoe Child added a third after the break, and the Shrews needed to withstand a late Wem
fightback before clinching the victory. Shrewsbury will now be at home to Lye Town who
scored nine times without reply past Whittlesey Athletic.
Torquay Utd notched up a notable 6-0 victory away to Poole Town, Helen Kukor
scoring twice along with Ellie Bishop, Ellie Dorey, Daisy Self and Cicely Downs. AEK Boco
pushed AFC St Austell all the way in a thrilling tie before the Cornish side came out as 4-3
winners. Lucy Solloway scored a hat-trick for St Austell, including the second half winner, and
Charlotte Whitmore added the other whilst Lucy Atkinson netted all three for the home side. St
Austell will be at home to Torquay in the First Round.
Sutton Coldfield Town must travel to Sheffield FC after they knocked out Leek
Town on a penalty shootout after the teams had shared a 3-3 draw. Abingdon Town were
another team to beat a FAWNL side on penalties, triumphing over Portishead Town after the
game had finished level at 2-2. Elisha Cox and Charlotte McGrath had scored for Abingdon,
while Portishead had netted through Shannon Holloway and Nathalie Zajaczkowski before a
tense shootout which saw ten players from each team take kicks before Abingdon triumphed
8-7. Abingdon will have a home tie against Gillingham.
Clapton Community hit the headlines in the last round with a notable victory and
their cup run continues thanks to a 2-0 success away to Biggleswade Utd in which Emily Link
and Marta Perez scored. Clapton now host Bedford Ladies got past Bowers & Pitsea on
penalties after the teams had finished level at 2-2. Zara Carroll and Ella Meadowcroft scored for
Bedford, with Eloise Ives and Sophie Rhodes replying.
Bromley FC Ladies are another Greater London League club still going strong, they
won 2-0 against Hastings Utd courtesy of Millie Main and an own goal. They must now make
the trip across London to take on Queen's Park Rangers who defeated Caversham Utd 4-0
thanks to Melanie Hall, Ellie Searle, Brogan Moore and Demi Edwards.
Farsley Celtic raced to an 8-2 victory over Darlington Women and they will be at
home again in the next round, to Mossley Hill who ran out 4-0 winners over Bishop
Auckland. South Shields were 5-0 winners away to Morecambe and are paired with
Norton & Stockton Ancients, they scored seven times without reply away to Altrincham,
including a Bianca Owens hat-trick and others from Shannon Reed (2), Ash Coyle and Sacha
Millward.
Hartlepool Utd got past AFC Darwen on penalties after the game had ended level
at 3-3, Robyn Foster (2) and Monika Kisicka having scored for 'Pools. Leeds Utd are having a
good season in the league and they have taken this form into the cup, they will be Hartlepool's
next opponents after winning 4-0 at Redcar Town thanks to Hannah Freibach, Kathryn
Smith, Laura Bartup and Abbie Brown.
Cheadle Town Stingers got past Tranmere Rovers on penalties after the teams
had shared a 2-2 draw and they will look forward to taking on FAWNL opposition, Bradford
City who defeated Ossett Utd 2-0. Michelle Stewart was on target four times for Alnwick
Town as they defeated Penrith AFC 6-0, Kirstie Tang and Catherine Johnston adding the
others. Alnwick must go to Barnsley, 3-0 winners over Salford City Lionesses.
