Division One champions AFC Bentley go into their final game of the season looking to remain
unbeaten in the League. They dropped their first away points when drawing 3-3 away to
Brunsmeer Athletic in midweek. Bentley’s trio of goals came from Gemma Harte (2) and an
opponent, while Millie Kenyon (2) and Niamh McKevitt were on target for the hosts. Brunsmeer
had prevailed when the teams met in the Cup Final a few days earlier, winning 3-1 when Kenyon
was also on the mark, along with Lucy Damms and Zara McLean. Beckey Kendell replied for
Bentley. At the bottom of the table, Middlewood Rovers were 3-1 winners over Wakefield
AFC Res to move on to eight points - the same as Barnsley (Women) Development. Grace
Mitchell (2) and Becky Walstow were the scorers in that midweek win, Nicole Moffatt with the
Wakefield consolation. Middlewood were beaten 2-0 at Kiveton Park three days previously,
Tiff Clarke and Sophie Ibberson on the mark for the hosts. Barnsley’s last game is against the
champions and they will do well to avoid another defeat following their 8-1 reversal against
Rotherham Utd Whitehill whose goals came from Jessica Broadhurst, with a four-goal haul,
Caitlin Cooper (2), Gracie Horne and Abigail Shepherd. Chesterfield (Women) are
confirmed as runners-up. Chloe Foster bagged a hat-trick with Steph O’Brien, Sofiat Rufus and
Paige Singleton the other scorers in a 6-0 victory over Wakefield before a crowd of 1,163 at the
Technique Stadium.
It is between Mosborough and Penistone Church for the Division Two title and it was
the former who claimed the honours in the Shield Final, winning 4-2 thanks to goals from Laura
Kerr (2), Sadie Smith and Beth Tonner. At the bottom of the table, Mexborough Athletic, for
whom Yasmin Bird and Sophie Cooper scored, were 2-1 winners over second bottom Dronfield
Town Res whose consolation came from Emily Marsden to halve the gap between the pair to
three points.
Division Three champions Staveley Miners Welfare are one game away from
completing the season with maximum points. Carly Rowlands netted both goals in the 2-1 win
at runners-up AFC Norton Woodseats whose defeat meant they just failed to go through the
season unbeaten at home. Katie Todd replied for Norton.
