Plymouth Argyle booked their place in the Second Round of
the FAWNL League Cup, and a home tie against Division
One South West leaders Cardiff City Ladies, when they won
4-0 away to London Seaward on Sunday.
Argyle goalkeeper Jasmine Read described her team’s
win as a “strong performance” and as well as looking
forward to two more big Cup ties coming up in the next few
weeks, she was also hopeful that the team could take their
good form in Cup matches into the league and improve their
current position in the table:
WSS: Congratulations on a great cup result on
Sunday after such a long journey, how pleasing a
performance was it from the team?
JR: It was a strong performance from the team on Sunday,
we looked very threatening going forward and we put into
practice what we have been working on over the last couple
of weeks.
WSS: Was it particularly important to get off to a
good start with those two Georgia Wilson goals?
JR: It was a very positive start considering the journey,
and it’s not a usual sight for us to score early on so I feel it
settled the team down and we got playing our game.
WSS: Your team has been in excellent form in cup matches this season, can you see
that giving you a big confidence boost going into league matches?
JR: We want to take this form we’ve got in the cup games into the league and hopefully we can
start turning performances into points and move up the table.
WSS: Your reward for beating London Seaward is a home tie with Cardiff in the last
sixteen. They will be familiar opponents to you, what are your thoughts on having
to meet them?
JR: Cardiff are in fine form at this moment, they have a strong side so we know the game will be
difficult but we will go into it full of confidence that we can get the job done.
WSS: This week, it's back to the FA Cup and you are away to Oxford, a tough looking
match on paper but do you feel that you are capable of getting through this tie?
JR: Oxford, as we know, are top of the league and are tough opponents. We have already
encountered them this season in the league so we will know what to expect and hopefully perform
well and progress to the Fourth Round.
WSS: Is a cup run in either competition high on the list of priorities for the club this
season?
JR: I believe just performing well in all the games is a big confidence booster, we can carry the
momentum forward regardless of the match being in the league or the cup. However, with the
prize money increasing from last year, it’s good to get more of a financial support into the club as
a result of our performances.
WSS: You don't play another league game until the New Year, when you make your
return to Home Park to play Cheltenham, is this match a potential launch pad for
the team getting away from danger?
JR: It is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase again to our fans what we’re about, what we’re
capable of. We’ve played Cheltenham twice, once in the league and once in the FA Cup, so they’re
familiar opponents to us and we will go into that game with the belief of getting the three points.
