SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League
Glasgow City stay on top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League after a nine-goal victory
against Spartans. The Edinburgh side had only been beaten twice going into the game but found
themselves two down inside the opening four minutes, Tyler Dodds and Julia Molin scoring for
City. Aoife Colvill and Cailin Michie put them further ahead, before Joanne Love made it five
before half time. After the break, Colvill netted her second whilst Lauren Davidson bagged a
brace and Taylor Fisher rounded off the scoring.
The result means that City remain on top on goal difference from Celtic who won 6-0
against Partick Thistle. Charlie Wellings opened the scoring and Kathleen McGovern added a
second, before Wellings further increased their lead before half time. Wellings went on to
complete her hat-trick in second half, with Maria Gros and Mengyu Shen also getting on the
scoresheet.
The next two teams in the table met each other and it was Rangers who triumphed 1-0
over Hibernian. In a tightly contested match, Zoe Ness scored the only goal of the game, five
minutes into the second half, to preserve Rangers’ 100% record and condemn Hibs to a second
narrow defeat in as many weeks.
Hearts claimed their first victory of the season, fighting back for a fine 3-2 success away
to Aberdeen. It looked as though it was going to be a difficult afternoon for Hearts as Eva
Thomson and Donna Paterson put the Dons two ahead in side the opening twenty minutes, but
Amelie Birse pulled one back on the stroke of half time. Monica Forsyth then levelled matters
early in the second half and Birse completed the comeback with her second goal, twenty minutes
from time.
Motherwell also won for the first time, 3-0 against Hamilton Academical and the
result was just enough to lift them off the bottom of the table. Leanne Crichton opened the
scoring from the penalty spot and Lori Gardner fired in a powerful strike seconds before half
time, before Jemma Hughes sealed the points for ‘Well wit the third goal, midway through the
second half.
In SWPL 2, all of the teams have now played four matches and despite not having a game
on Sunday, Dundee Utd have held onto the leadership although they have been joined on ten
points by Glasgow Women after they
