Millwall’s Den delight

Denham Utd 1 Millwall Lionesses 2
Millwall Lionesses took a hard earned
three points away from Denham United's
Den home in their London & South East
       Regional League Premier Division
       encounter.
Two first half goals gave the
Lionesses an advantage and, although the
hosts halved the deficit with twenty
minutes to go, Millwall successfully out the
match for a win which lifts them into mid-
       table.
Denham were the first to threaten
with a free kick well held by keeper Chrissie
Wiggins. Chloe Burr had a shot saved by
home keeper Zara Butt on nine minutes. Chloe Burr goes on the attack for Millwall, challenged by

minutes but her shot flew wide of the
       Millwall goal.
The visitors took the lead on 23 minutes via a penalty converted by Maisie Joyce
after a period of dominance. The lead was doubled seven minutes later when Charlotte
Lynch's pass set up Burr for a turn and powerful shot from 15 yards. The pace and good
control of Alyssa Miranda gave Millwall further chances but Denham went close on 41
       minutes through Cox again.
The pattern of the match was similar for the early part of the second half. Millwall
worked their way into good positions but were well marshalled by Jo Torr and her
defensive colleagues whilst Butt was alert and quick off her line to intercept through
passes. At the other end, Denham gave themselves some hope with a fine headed goal by
Daisy Baronowski, meeting a well flighted free kick on 68 minutes.
Denham had their best spell as they pushed for a leveller in the final quarter. The
visitors’ defence was solid under pressure and Wiggins handling was sound but a couple
of half chances were created. The closest Denham came to a second goal was on 84
minutes when a good move set up Dadrian Kennedy in front of goal but the shot was wide.
A well contested match between teams with similar early season form ended with
Millwall Lionesses claiming the three points as attention turns to the Vitality Women's
FA Cup for both clubs next week.
