Former players name Wales squad
Former Wales internationals have announced Gemma Grainger’s squad to face Slovenia and
Estonia in the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign as part of
celebrations for the side’s 200th match.
Wales played their first official match in September 1993 against Iceland at Afan Lido
and will be playing their 200th match on Friday 22nd October against Slovenia in Lendava.
Former internationals from across the last 28 years and the unaffiliated team from
earlier years announced the squad in a video released on the FAW’s social media platforms.
Grainger has a full strength squad available to build on the victories over Kazakhstan
and Estonia last month. Hannah Cain will be involved in her first camp after missing out last
month with an injury, whilst the likes of Jessica Fishlock and Sophie Ingle come into the
international window following a rich vein of form at their clubs.
Following the match against Slovenia in Lendava, Wales will return to home soil to
face Estonia in the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 26th October (KO 7.15pm).
Tickets for the Estonia match start at only £2 (group bookings) and £4 (individual
bookings) for kids, available at faw.cymru/tickets.
Wales opened up their group matches with a 6-0 victory over Kazakhstan at Parc y
Scarlets last month and followed it by winning 1-0 in Estonia, putting them level with
favourites France at the top of Group I.
