The Barclays FA WSL
Arsenal have gone three points clear at the top of the table after they
defeated Everton 3-0 to maintain their 100% record and keep a fourth
straight clean sheet. Katie McCabe opened the scoring just after the half
hour mark and Lotte Wubben-Moy made it two before half time. The best
was to come late on though as Frida Maanum rounded off the scoring late
on with a powerful 25-yard strike which found the top corner.
Chelsea are up into second, their highest position of the season to
date, with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City. The Blues needed to be patient
as Leicester put up strong resistance throughout the match, with goalkeeper
Kirstie Levell having a fine game. Chelsea made the breakthrough with
seven minutes remaining with a goal from Pernille Harder, before Fran Kirby finally sealed the
points in injury time.
Tottenham Hotspur’s winning start to the season was brought to an end as they were
beaten 2-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion. Lee Geum-Min put the Seagulls in front shortly
before half time and Victoria Williams scored what proved to be the winner, despite Kit Graham
pulling one back for Spurs with two minutes remaining.
Manchester Utd and Manchester City battled out a thrilling derby match which
ended with honours even in a 2-2 draw. City, looking to end a run of three succesive defeats,
were dealt a blow when Georgia Stanway was red carded for a high tackle on Leah Galton but
three minutes later, they took the lead through a header from Khadija Shaw from a Demi Stokes
centre. The game was turned on its head in four second half minutes, Lucy Staniforth turning in
a cross from Ella Toone and Alessio Russo drilled United in front from the edge of the area. City’s
response was swift though and Ellen White followed up to slot in the equaliser, and earn her side
a point, when she followed up to score after Jess Manchester Utd 2 (Staniforth 72, Russo 75)
