FA Women’s Championship
A 2-0 victory over local rivals Sunderland keeps Durham Women two points
clear at the top of the FA Women’s Championship. A well contested local derby
remained goalless until just before the hour mark, when Beth Hepple fired in a
trademark free kick to open the scoring. Mollie Lambert
then lobbed home the second to put the seal on a fifth win
in six matches for the Wildcats.
The result actually returned Durham to the top of
the table because on Saturday, Liverpool had gone there
for the first time this season after winning 2-0 away to
Sheffield Utd. Top spot was on offer for the winners of
the match and it was the Reds who took the points with
two first half goals, Charlotte Wardlaw giving them a fifth
minute lead and Leanne Kiernan scoring the second just
ahead of the interval.
London City Lionesses meanwhile came from
behind to win 2-1 against Watford to move into the top
three. Helen Ward gave Watford the lead midway
through the second half but her side’s hopes of a first
victory were dashed as the Lionesses fought back to take
the points with two goals in a six minute spell, Brooke
Nunn bringing the scores level and Annie Rossiter then Bristol City’s Ava Kuyken takes on Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic made it four wins in five
games when they defeated Bristol City 2-1. Emma Follis put the Addicks in front early on but City
fought back and levelled the scores through Abi Harrison just before half time. Charlton were to have
the final say as the game went into injury time, Follis heading home her second goal on the day from
a Megan Wynne cross to maintain her side’s good
start to the season. Sheffield Utd 0
