Cup holders Chelsea won their second successive group match
when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. The game was
goalless until midway through the second half, when Erin
Cuthbert broke the deadlock with a powerful strike from the edge of the area. The Blues went on
to seal the points when Melanie Leupolz scored from the penalty spot with six minutes
remaining.
In the other game in Group B, Arsenal got off the mark with a 4-0 victory over London
City Lionesses. Not for the first time since she joined the Gunners, Vivianne Miedema was to
steal the show, the Dutch striker hitting a first half hat-trick before going on to score her fourth
after the break.
Durham Women made it two wins out of two in Group A by scoring six times without
reply past Sheffield Utd. Kathryn Hill gave them the lead in first half injury time but after the
break, the Wildcats produced an outstanding display, Nicki Gears doubling their advantage
before they went on to add further goals through Emily Roberts, Sarah Robson, Bridget
Galloway and Molly Sharpe.
Manchester City still lead the way in Group C, thanks to a 3-0 win at Liverpool.
Having made three changes from the Vitality Women’s FA Cup Final three days earlier, the
Cityzens went in front through Laura Coombs just before half time and Rose Lavelle added a
second early after the restart, before Jess Park completed the scoring in injury time.
