AFC Bournemouth CST 3 Buckland Athletic 1
AFC Bournemouth CST moved into the draw for the
First Round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup after an
excellent display to beat Buckland Athletic at
Verwood Town FC's Potterne Park.
Molly Clark's hat-trick deservedly took
centre stage but every Bournemouth player stepped
up in a match they largely dominated. Were it not for
the excellent work of Abbie Bond in the Buckland
goal and the woodwork, the margin of victory could
have been greater.
The tone was set right from the start with
Bond saving well from Gemma Hillier with the
follow up rebounding from the bar and a third effort
being cleared off the line on four minutes. Buckland
were moving the ball neatly at times but were well
marshalled by the home defence. Clark hit the

middle only to be denied by Bond on two occasions
as the Cherries dominated.
The breakthrough came on 40 minutes when Clark hit a perfect lofted shot from around
30 yards for a superb opener. Clark's second came just three minutes later after a personal duel
with the visiting keeper. Rebecca Barron broke free on the right and sent in a low cross. Clark's
close range backheel was kept out by Bond, the follow up header was somehow parried away,
only for Clark to reach the loose ball to fire home at the third go.
Buckland returned after the break with greater determination to impose their will on
the game and managed to exert more pressure on the Bournemouth midfield and defence.
Home keeper Katie Scadding had her first serious saves to make, from a Courtney Butt header,
then from Maria Warman's low shot just before the hour.
However, Bond was still by far the busier keeper, making another top quality block
before a massive scramble on the goal line somehow stayed out with the assistance of the
woodwork. Hillier struck the same upright a minute later but then Clark showed strength to
shrug off a defender before converting from 10 yards on 66 minutes.
Buckland immediately struck back after a good move led to a foul in the box and Sarah
Stacey converted the spot kick. The visitors kept pressing for an unlikely late comeback but,
apart from a couple of half chances, the home defence were rock solid. Bournemouth saw the
tie out in good style, using their ability on the ball and clever interplay to keep control and
delight the majority of the sizeable crowd.
With two FAWNL sides already defeated by the Southern Region League club,
Bournemouth will be up against Southampton FC Women whenever the next round of the
competition is allowed to take place.
