Slough Town 1 Penn & Tyler’s Green 5
Penn and Tylers Green moved to within a
point of the Thames Valley League Division
Three East title after a 5-1 away victory over
close rivals Slough Town. The sides had
drawn in the reverse fixture a month ago but
Penn were too strong this time for a Slough
team depleted by injuries, scoring some
superb goals in a fine display.
Slough keeper Chloe Hetherington
had already denied Sasha Smith and the
same player had hit the underside of the bar
before the hosts went close, with Nikhita
Sangha twice bringing good saves from
Rebecca Tobin on 16 minutes.
Holly Wyncoll also hit the Slough bar

keeper's left. Slough hit back with a lofted
shot from Ellie Teverson on 38 minutes for the equaliser.
Penn soon restored their lead with excellent work by Ellie Ludgate-Williams,
turning inside a defender before firing a shot high into the net. Only a brilliant save by
Hetherington denied the same player another before the break, the keeper quickly off her
line to block at the expense of lengthy treatment after a painful collision.
Ludgate-Williams would not be denied however lobbing the third shortly after the
restart. Leah Martin's long throw sent Smith away but Hetherington again blocked at the
attacker's feet as Penn were always lively in attack.
The turning point of the match came on 69 minutes during a prolonged spell of
Slough pressure. A left wing corner was met with a firm downward header by Lucy
Thomson but Tobin reacted superbly to touch the ball on to the post and away to safety.
The value of this save was shown as Penn sealed the match with two further goals
from Smith on 75 minutes via a deflection and on 79 minutes at the second attempt to
complete a hat-trick. Henna Hussain, who also had a fine game, nearly added a sixth but
was denied by Hetherington's save.
Slough finished the match still battling strongly with Teverson and Thomson
providing some good moments in attack but Penn deserved the three points which takes
them to the brink of the title, requiring one point from their last two games to take them
beyond the challenge of Slough and Ascot United Development.
