The top three in SWPL 1 all stepped up their respective title challenges with two victories in
four days to leave things as they were at the top of the table.
On Sunday, leaders Glasgow City scored eight times against Forfar Farmington.
Priscilla Chinchilla led the scoring for the title holders with a hat-trick, Megan Foley weighed
in with a double and there was one apiece from Clare Shine, Aoife Colvill and Mairead Fulton.
Three days later, Scott Booth’s side followed this up with a 4-2 success away to
Motherwell. Leanne Ross’ early goal for City was cancelled out by Rosie Slater, but Mairead
Fulton restored City’s lead a minute later and Aoife Colvill netted a third on the stroke of half
time. Kodie Hay gave the Women of Steel hope after the break but Janine van Wyk made the
points safe for City shortly afterwards, to preserve their lead of four points.
Second placed Rangers produced a good display when beating Spartans 5-0 on
Sunday. The home side were not helped by an early injury to goalkeeper Rachel Harrison but
Lizzie Arnot fired in from the penalty spot to give Rangers a lead which was doubled by a
Rebecca Galbraith own goal and Zoe Ness made it three by half time. Chelsea Cornet ended
a fine move by putting Rangers further in front and Bali Devi Ngangom completed the
scoring with a 25-yard strike late on.
Rangers followed this up in midweek by winning 3-0 at Hibernian, to keep up the
chase after Glasgow City. Carly Girasoli headed Rangers ahead after six minutes and the
defender scored her second on the half hour mark. Girasoli almost completed a hat-trick
after the break with a header which struck the bar, but Brianna Westrup did add a third with
eleven minutes remaining.
Celtic meanwhile kept up their challenge, first with a 3-0 victory against Hearts.
The Hoops were made to work hard by the home side, whose goalkeeper Charlotte Parker-
Smith had a fine game, but Chloe Craig made the breakthrough eight minutes into the second
half. A Claire Williamson own goal doubled Celtic’s lead and Anna Filbey netted the third
goal late on.
