Brentford Development secured the Greater London League Division Two North title last
Sunday, having won every league match they have played this season to date.
When the season began back in October, the Bees opened their campaign with a 5-3
victory over Forest Crusaders and have gone from strength to strength ever since,
including a highly significant result in their second game.
“Our best performance (of the season) came early, away to New London Lionesses
Development,” manager Will Blithing told Women’s Soccer Scene. We were 2-0 down after
60 minutes and came back to win 3-2 in some tough conditions away from home.”
This was followed by three more wins before a halt was called to play in November
but on its return in April, Brentford were to hit the ground running in some crucial
       matches.
“Three of our most important results came, first in both games of a double header
against Watford,” added Blithing. “We won 1-0 and 2-1 and the other was away to Hackney
reserves, a 2-1 win which confirm us finishing top of the league.”
Manager Will Blithing is assisted by Tommy Ryan-Maynard and Charlotte Tanner,
with Mia Green as captain. Shannon Read is currently leading scorer with 24 goals,
however she is just one ahead of Jasmine Williamson who is on 23.
“Several players have played an important role this season,” said Will. “Mia Green,
the captain, definitely found her feet this season and is a leader in the team and goalkeeper
Hannah Iguchi came into her element and some of her saves have won us matches. Also,
Kasey Clifford who has been coming up with goals and assists from everywhere this season.
“I am going to add Ollie Cottis to the list as well, for the work he has done one-to-one
with some of the girls. You can see it has made a positive impact on their performances.”
Brentford carried on the winning run on the weekend even after the title had been
confirmed, notching up a 4-1 win against Actonians Ladies Development.
