The SWPL returned from the international break with two rounds of fixtures in a matter of
days, including one very significant result in the title race.
On Friday night, Celtic won 3-0 against Rangers to end the Champions’ unbeaten
record and increase the gap between the two teams. Caitlin Hayes scored twice and Amy
Gallacher the other to give Celtic a stunning win as they continued their pursuit of leaders
Glasgow City.
City themselves were 7-0 winners over Aberdeen, and followed this up in midweek by
beating Motherwell 3-0 thanks to a Lauren Davidson double and Emily Whelan. This keeps
them three points in front of Celtic, who scored seven times past Hamilton Academical,
and the two teams are set to meet this Sunday. Natasha Flint and Mengyu Shen each netted
twice along with Natalie Ross, Olivia Chance and a Chloe Nicholson own goal. Rangers are
a further four points adrift after bouncing back with a 5-0 victory over Partick Thistle,
courtesy of Jenny Danielsson (2), Emma Watson, Jodi McLeary and Kayla McCoy.
It has been a good week for Hearts as they followed up a local derby draw with
Hibernian on the weekend by beating Dundee Utd 2-0, thanks to first half goals from
Ciara Grant and Emma Brownlie.
The win has seen Hearts increase their lead over Hibs to five points after they were held
to a goalless draw by Aberdeen. The point was a valuable one for the Dons as they doubled
their advantage over Hamilton Academical in the relegation play-off position.
The other midweek result saw Spartans win 2-0 away to Glasgow Women, a result
which saw Spartans move into sixth position with a couple of games to go before the split. The
first half was goalless but Caley Gibb opened the scoring shortly after the restart and Becky
Galbraith made the points safe with the
second goal, eight minutes from time, to
