Brighouse Town are one of the form teams in the FA Women’s
National League right now, with their 5-0 victory over Fylde
Women on Sunday being their eighth in a row in all
competitions and they have gone flying up the league from the
       bottom two to fifth place.
Brighouse captain and defender Shauna Legge told us
that, despite their spectacular form over the last couple of
months, they are not getting carried away or looking at
anything beyond the next game and a lot of hard work and
determination has gone into their recent results:
WSS: Another win for you on Sunday and your
biggest of the season so far, was that as good a
performance as the team has given this season?
SL: I think it was a solid performance from us, we have kept
building since Christmas and more goals have started going
in the back of the net which is great. I think there’s always
going to be something we can improve on, if I was going to
nit pick maybe we could have been a bit more relentless and
clinical in front of goal but I really can’t complain with putting five away!
WSS: That makes it eight wins in a row and ten games unbeaten in all
competitions, with only two goals conceded in that run, confidence must be as
high as it has ever been?
SL: Our confidence in ourselves has definitely grown, we had a tough start to the season and a
lot of hard work and determination has gone into getting the results we have recently. You can
never be overly confident, which we are definitely not. There’s no easy games in this league.
WSS: You were in the bottom three when the run began, has there been any
specific reason for such an upsurge in form?
SL: Like I mentioned before, we have continued to believe and work hard for each other. We’ve
stuck together as a group when things weren’t going our way and I think that grit and
togetherness that the group and coaching staff have shown has definitely been the drive behind
getting the results we want and have worked so hard for, it hasn’t come easy.
WSS: You are without a game this Sunday but then return with a home game
against West Bromwich Albion, how hopeful are you that you can keep the run
       going?
SL: The West Brom game is another huge game for us, and as they’re a team in and around us
in the league, both teams will obviously be wanting to take home the three points, we just need
to make sure that we do everything we can to get them.
WSS: It will be a tough finish as you still have to play the top four teams again, do
you think that will be the best way to gauge the team's recent progress?
SL: There’s no easy game in this league, there’s no guaranteed wins and it’s football at the end
of the day anything can happen. We have definitely progressed since playing those teams
earlier in the season but we like to concentrate on the games ahead of us first so West Brom is
the focus for now, we hope to get the job done there first and then we can concentrate on what’s
       next.
WSS: The winning run has taken Brighouse all the way up to fifth place, would you
consider it to be a good season if you were able to finish there?
SL : It’s definitely an improvement on where we were before Christmas so it would be nice, we
just want to do as well as we can and finish as high as we can, a top half finish would be great.
WSS: How confident are you that the team can take this momentum into next
season and be up amongst the leading teams?
