KEYNSHAM TOWN LADIES 6
At the AJN today
Plymouth Argyle L.F.C.
The club was formed in 1975 as a result of a 5-a-side
league at the Mayflower Leisure Centre in Plymouth. Two
teams then merged in order to enter an 11-a-side football
tournament in Newquay, Cornwall with the team creating
the name of 'Plymouth Pilgrims'.
Following the success of the tournament Plymouth
Pilgrims played in numerous competitions throughout the
70's and 80's with the most notable achievement being
when they reached the quarter final of the Women's FA Cup in both 1976 and
1977.
The club name changed to 'Saltash Pilgrims' in late 1990 / early 2000 to reflect
their home ground at the time – Saltash United's Kimberly Stadium in Cornwall.
It was not until the 2001–02 season that the club, then competing in the SW
Combination League, were invited to compete under the umbrella of Plymouth
Argyle F.C. and Plymouth Argyle Ladies were formed.
The club held the Devon FA Women's County Cup for a record number of years
from 2002–2006 and enjoyed a highly respectable second-placed finish in the SW
Combination league in the 2006–07 season.
The 2010/11 season saw the ladies win promotion to the SW Premier league but
unfortunately after one season were relegated back to the SW Combination
League.
Plymouth Argyle Ladies completed the league and cup double in the 2013/14
season, securing the SW Combination League title and the Devon County FA
Senior Women's Cup. Following this success they were elected to join the newly
formed FA Women's Premier League Southern Division for the 2014/15 season
We won the FA Women’s National League South West Division One in the
2017-18 season and finished in our highest position ever last season, 6th in the
Southern Premier Division.
We were also crowned Devon FA Senior Women’s champions for a record
thirteenth time last season.
