Chelsea are back on top of the Barclays WSL but were pushed all the way
by a spirited Tottenham Hotspur side in their 3-2 victory. Jess Carter
opened the scoring in the eighth minute for the Blues but almost inevitably,
it was Beth England who brought the scores level against her former club.
Lauren James restored Chelsea’s lead just before the half hour and Guro
Reiten made it three after the break, before Nikola Karczewska pulled one
back for Spurs late on.
Manchester Utd had begun the day as leaders but it was to end in
frustration for them as they were held to a goalless draw by improving
Everton. Despite producing 25 attempts on goal, United could not find a way through as the
Toffees extended their unbeaten run to four matches and consolidated themselves in fifth place.
Sunday turned out to be a great day for Chelsea and the evening match between West
Ham Utd and Arsenal also finished in a 0-0 draw. It was a similar story for the Gunners who
could not break down a well drilled Hammers defence and goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was in
fine form. Arsenal are now five points off the pace although they still possess a game in hand on
the top two.
Manchester City have now gone level on points with Arsenal and stretched their
unbeaten league run to ten games by winning 2-0 away to Leicester City. The home side were
looking to build on their first win of the season and the first half was goalless but just after the
break, Khadija Shaw opened the scoring for the Cityzens with her tenth league goal of the
campaign. Chloe Kelly sealed the points with a superb strike, to help keep her side firmly in the
running.
Prior to last weekend, only five matches had finished as draws in the league this season but
three of the six matches saw the points shared this
time around. The third one was at Aston Villa Aston Villa 1 (Green og 33)

Hove Albion, who move out of the bottom two as -

Manchester City 2 (Shaw 61, Kelly 74)

-

Olme struck to earn the Seagulls a valuable point. Everton 0
Liverpool moved themselves closer towards -
a mid-table position when they defeated Reading Tottenham Hotspur 2 (England 16, Karczewska 88)
Chelsea 3 (Carter 8, James 27, Reiten 64)
FC Women 2-0. The two goals came in a four -
minute spell just after the hour mark, Missy Bo Liverpool 2 (Kearns 62, Holland 65)
Kearns giving Liverpool the lead and Ceri Holland Reading FC Women 0
adding the second in quick succession to seal a -
second win in three matches for Matt Beard’s side, West Ham Utd 0
