League Cup
Wolverhampton Wanderers complete the semi
final line up following a 3-2 extra time victory against
perennial cup challengers Huddersfield Town.
Wolves looked to be on their way to a comfortable win when Destiney Toussaint and Jade Cross
put them two ahead at half time but after the break, Town battled back and after Beth Ibbotson
pulled one back, an own goal brought the scores level and took the game into the extra period.
Toussaint scored her second before half time and this time, Wolves held out for a result which
takes them into the last four, where they will face Watford.
League Plate
Leeds Utd have had a great season in cup competitions, reaching the Fourth Round of the
Vitality Women's FA Cup where they met Arsenal, and on Sunday they won 2-0 away to Fylde
Women to reach the League Plate semi finals. Goals in a three minute spell, early in the second
half, from Kathryn Smith and Abbie Brown took Leeds through to a meeting with
Southampton Women, which guarantees that a Division One side will reach the Final.
Northern Premier Division
Whilst Wolverhampton Wanderers were involved in League Cup action, Nottingham Forest
took the chance to go six points ahead at the top with a 4-2 win at Liverpool Feds. Sophie
Domingo was on target twice for Forest along with Charlotte Greengrass and Charlotte Steggles,
with the Feds' replies coming from Katie Thomas and Beth Donoghue.
Burnley FC Women maintained their title challenge by winning 2-1 away to
Loughborough Lightning. Emma Taylor scored an injury time winner for the Clarets to add
to Ellie York's earlier strike, whilst Loughborough netted through a Georgia Stevens penalty.
Brighouse Town meanwhile won for the second week in a row, a 1-0 success against
Stoke City which takes them into mid-table. Lucy Sowerby kept up her good form by scoring
the only goal of the game, which lifts her side into a more comfortable position.
Southern Premier Division
Portsmouth have taken over at the top of the table following their 1-0 victory away to
Gillingham on Sunday. The only goal of the game came in the sixth minute, scored by in-form
Anaisa Harney who took her tally to four in three matches.
Oxford Utd had started the day as leaders but went down to their first defeat of the
season, beaten 2-1 by Cheltenham Town who continue to flourish at a higher level following
promotion. Issy Newns gave Cheltenham a tenth minute lead and Laura Holden added the
second in first half injury time, before Iesha Swaby pulled one back for the U's after the break.
Watford met Ipswich Town in an important clash near the top but neither would have
been satisfied with the resulting 1-1 draw. Lucy O'Brien gave Ipswich a first half lead, which they
held until late on when Poppy Wilson scored an equaliser for Watford. Ipswich therefore stay
third, three points ahead of Watford who have played two games less.
Milton Keynes Dons are up to mid-table after winning a high scoring affair 6-3 against
Billericay Town. Mollie Coupar and Laura Mitchell each netted doubles for the Dons along
with Gemma Biggadike and Tricia Gould, whilst Billericay's replies came via a Jessica King brace
and Ruby Sealey.
Plymouth Argyle gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 2-1 success away to
London Bees. Georgia Wilson have Argyle a first half lead which was cancelled out after the
break by Janaye Beaufort, but Plymouth were have to final say when Amber Pollock scored an
injury time winner.
Crawley Wasps picked up a valuable point when sharing a 1-1 draw with Bridgwater
Utd. Ellie Sara looked have given Bridgwater victory when she put them ahead with five minutes
