League leaders Cardiff City Women headed north to face The New Saints, looking to build on the
last minute point earned last week against Swansea and keep their title ambitions on track. TNS
meanwhile were still revelling in their last two wins, including a strong performance against Cardiff
Met Women in their Phase 2 opener. TNS struck first, Helen Evans heading in from a corner but the
Bluebirds didn’t let them keep the lead for long with Zoe Atkins hitting back two minutes later and
Danielle Broadhurst adding a second to take a 2-1 lead into half time. Shiobhan Walsh headed home
from a corner and seven minutes later, Rhianne Oakley added a fourth. For good measure, Cardiff
scored for the second week in a row deep into injury time, with Eliza Collie adding her name to the
scoresheet to seal a 5-1 win.
Swansea City are not yet ready to hand over the title just yet, after taking points of Cardiff last
week they need to keep winning to keep the pressure on while their opponents, Cardiff Met, were
hoping to bounce back from last week’s defeat at TNS. Swans put the pressure on early doors, the
Archers were resilient for the first half hour but Stacey John-Davies eventually broke the deadlock,
taking the visitors in at half time with a narrow lead. The second half initially started in much the same
way but John-Davies made it two, burying Chloe Chivers’ cross and four minutes later completed her
hat-trick. Chivers also got her name on the scoresheet to round off a 4-0 victory, with Megan Saunders
providing the assist.
In the Plate Conference, Abergavenny Women travelled to Pontypridd Utd, having beaten
them at the end of Phase 1 and a win last week under their belt. Liv Francis was named in the upcoming
U17’s Cymru squad this week and was determined to get her name written on today’s game. She had the
best of the early chances for the home side, but had to wait until just before half time to finally grab the
goal, Trinci finding the pass into the box and Francis doing the rest. Carys Bufton put in another early
in the second half but despite several narrow misses, they couldn’t increase their lead and it finished
2-0.
Aberystwyth Town started the day eight points behind Pontypridd, whilst Barry Town Utd
