Dynamic duo share eight
Ashford Town (Middlesex) 8 Worthing FC Women 0
Ashford Town (Middlesex) continued their
superb start to the London & South East
Regional League season with a sixth victory in
a row, beating Worthing by eight goals.
The goals were shared equally between
Ashley Cheatley and Lavana Neufville who
provided a striking masterclass, but this was a
superb team display by the Tangerines.
Worthing. despite the scoreline, had plenty of
decent attacking play of their own but the
Ashford defence was strong and resolute to
ensure a clean sheet.
Cheatley had already seen one effort
cleared off the line before outpacing the defence Lavana Neufville (right) tries to hook a shot over
to notch the first on eight minutes. Jade Lauren Dolbear (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
Johnson's right wing cross set up Neufville's first
despite a good initial save by Lauren Dolbear on 28 minutes.
Worthing's Gemma Worsfold tested Sophie Schults in the home goal, then turned
provider for Shawna Harvey to fire in a shot well held as the visitors enjoyed a spell of
pressure after the half hour.
A defensive mix up gave Neufville a close range tap in on 38 minutes for Ashford's
third but the second half saw a real golden twenty five opening minutes for the hosts as they
added five further strikes to their total.
Alissa Down struck the bar with a free kick before Cheatley ran through the defence
for her second on 53 minutes. The same player completed a hat-trick on the hour with a
similar finish before notching her fourth and Ashford's sixth a couple of minutes later.
Neufville then got in on the act, set up unselfishly by Cheatley for her own hat-trick
goal on 67 minutes, before rounding off the scoring with a clever headed finish from a fine
Johnson cross six minutes later.
Worthing had a player sent off for fouling Cheatley who went off injured and skipper
Down drew a fine save from Dolbear from the resulting free kick. Anya Kinnane nearly
added a ninth from another tempting Johnson cross from the right but Worthing were able
to avoid further damage.
The pace and movement of the front two was outstanding backed by excellent work
by Down and Johnson in particular as Ashford Town emphasised their attacking potential
in a thrilling display.
