SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League
The top five teams in SWPL 1 are covered by just a single point after Sunday’s matches and
Glasgow City are back on top of the table on goal difference after winning 3-1 at
Hamilton Academical. The Accies did take a thirteenth minute lead through Kirstie
McIntosh but City hit back strongly to take the points, Jenna Clark and Clare Shine
ensuring they led at the break and Aoife Colvill wrapped matters up with the third goal,
early in the second half.
Hibernian had started the day as leaders but went down to their first defeat,
beaten 2-1 by Celtic who are now second. All of the goals came in the final third of the
game, Sarah Harkes giving Celtic a lead which was cancelled out by Colette Cavanagh, but
Charlie Wellings hit an injury time winner for Celtic, to hand them a second win in three
games.
A win would have seen Aberdeen take over as leaders but instead they are in third,
level on points with the top two, after their meeting with Spartans ended goalless. The
point means that Spartans stay in a mid-table position but are only three points off the
pace.
Rangers are now the only team left with a 100% record in the league and are in
fourth following their 3-0 victory away to Hearts, one point adrift of the top three but with
a game in hand. Lizzie Arnot gave Rangers the lead during the first half and after Nicola
Docherty had made it two midway through the second half, Brianna Westrup rounded off
the scoring with five minutes remaining.
The four matches in the top flight on Sunday produced a total of ten goals but they
were a lot scarcer in SWPL 2, where the three games yielded only three goals.
Dundee Utd hold on to the leadership and stay three points ahead after battling
out a goalless draw with Glasgow Women. A win would have taken Glasgow level on
points with United but the result means they stay in third place, three points behind their
opponents.
