SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League
The last three quarter final places in the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup were decided
when the final round of group matches were played on Sunday.
Second place was up for grabs in the last Group B match and it was Dundee Utd who
went through by winning 4-2 away to Kilmarnock. United went two ahead inside the
opening half hour, thanks to Jade McLaren and Rachel Todd, but Killie fought back to level
the scores through Laura Neil and Shelley Campbell and United were reduced to ten players
when McLaren was red carded. Tammy Harkin then restored United's lead with twenty
minutes remaining and Danni McGinley went on to seal the victory.
Hamilton Academical started the day in second place in Group C but were facing
the toughest of tasks as they took on Glasgow City. Taylor Fisher, Ode Fulutudilu, Vital
Kats, Tyler Dodds, Agata Coelho Pimenta and Jo Love all scored a goal apiece as City ran out
6-0 winners to ensure they completed their group matches with a 100% record.
This allowed Spartans an opportunity to replace the Accies as group runners-up and
they accepted the chance by beating Glasgow Women 4-0. Becky Galbraith spearheaded
the win for Spartans by hitting a hat-trick and Sarah Clelland weighed in with the other goal.
The last match in Group D was to be a decisive one as Hearts took on Partick
Thistle, with a three point gap between the two teams. Hearts required a three-goal victory
in order to get through but it was Thistle who secured second place and qualification as the
match finished goalless.
Rangers had already guaranteed themselves top spot in Group A and rounded off
their matches with a fourth straight victory, 4-0 against Boroughmuir Thistle. Lizzie
Arnot gave them the lead just after the half hour and Jodi McLeary made it two a minute
later. Rachel McLauchlan and Emma Watson sewed up the win for Rangers with further
goals after the break.
In the other game, Motherwell were 3-2 winners away to Queen's Park. After a
goalless first half, Gill Inglis put Motherwell in front two minutes after the restart but the
Spiders then struck twice through Abbi
McDonald and Holly McIndoe. SWPL 1 P W D L F A Pts GD
