Queen’s Park Rangers 0 Ipswich Town 7
Ipswich Town gave a superb display of
attacking football to defeat Queen's Park
Rangers by seven goals in the FAWNL Cup
       Determining Round at the Powerday
       Stadium.
The variety and quality of the Tractor
Girls' attacks gave the hard working home
defence a difficult afternoon but they stuck
to their task well enough to keep the score
level for the first 35 minutes.
The Division One South East hosts
were soon under pressure with both wings
providing a series of dangerous crosses
which were generally well defended. Keeper
Katie McLean made a fine save to deny new Abbie Lafayette (right) under pressure from Vicky Grieve
                                                      (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
Ipswich loan signing Freya Godfrey whilst
Maddie Biggs fired over when well placed. Such was the intensity of the pressure that
a goal was inevitable and it eventually came via the head of Abbie Lafayette from a
       Godfrey cross on 35 minutes.
Nia Evans added the second four minutes later, curling in a fine finish from the
edge of the area and right on the break Sarah Brasero-Carreira provided another
pinpoint cross for Lafayette to guide a second headed finish beyond McLean.
Rangers had found little attacking momentum to break the stranglehold and the
pattern largely continued. Biggs, who had been involved in much of the good play,
scored from close range after a lovely one two with Godfrey on 66 minutes.
Natasha Thomas was introduced to the action and scored immediately when set
up by Biggs' fine run and pass on 71 minutes then added a second when she converted
a pass from another sub Anna Grey.
Rangers never gave up and forced debuting keeper Nina Meolio into some late
saves but the last action was at the other end as Grey converted a 90th minute penalty
to complete a dominant and highly impressive all round performance.
For Rangers the consolation comes in the form of a place in the FAWNL Plate
competition and that they will not have to face this quality of attacking play too often.
