National League Cup
After a delay of two weeks, the National League
Cup got underway with the
Determining Round, where the
winning team went into the Cup and
the losing side entered the Plate.
One team managed to claim a
scalp of a higher division opponent and
that was AFC Wimbledon, who won
4-2 against Cheltenham Town.
Ashlee Hincks spearheaded the win for
the Dons with a hat-trick and Eleanor
Dorey added the other, whilst
Cheltenham's replies came from Emma
Kayla Potter heads in the only goal of the game for London Bees
Congrave and Maisy Collis. against Portishead Town.
Last season's Plate winners
Nottingham Forest will be aiming to go better in the main competition this time
around, and progressed with a 5-0 victory away to Leek Town. Rebecca Anderson and
Iris Achterhof put Forest two ahead at half time, before they added further goals
through Charlotte Greengrass, Gianna Mitchell and Mai Moncaster. Derby County
meanwhile were 2-1 winners at Fylde Women in one of the ties of the round. Anita
Gaspar netted both goals for the Ewe Rams, with Cara Fields replying. Stoke City got
through another all-Northern Premier tie, a Carra Jones hat-trick and Kelsey
Richardson giving them a 4-2 success against Boldmere St Michaels. Liverpool
Feds scored a remarkable four times in extra time as they won 5-1 at West
Bromwich Albion. Paige Cole led the scoring with a hat-trick and there was one
apiece from Rosie Kinvig and Jennifer Rogers, whilst the home side's consolation was
scored by Janelle Straker. Huddersfield Town, beaten finalists last season, came
through a difficult tie with a 2-1 victory over Stourbridge. Kate Mallin netted an
injury time winner for Town to add to Laura Elford's earlier strike, with Millie Rogers
replying. Wolverhampton Wanderers ran out 5-0 winners away to
Northampton Town, courtesy of Alisha Miller (2), Summer Holmes, Amber Hughes
and Anna Morphet, whilst a Millie Ravening brace and Aimee Kelly saw Burnley FC
Women to a 3-1 victory at Hull City, for whom Hope Knight responded. Emily Sharpe
and Monique Robinson were the markswomen for Loughborough Lightning as
they beat Solihull Moors 2-0 and Brighouse Town defeated Leafield Athletic
4-1 thanks to a Jasmine Saxton double, Isobel Dean and Monique Watson.
Oxford Utd were taken all the way to penalties - the only tie to do so - by AFC
Bournemouth but the U's did make it through, winning 5-3 from the spot after the
match had ended goalless. Maya Kendell meanwhile scored the only goal of the game
as Bridgwater Utd won 1-0 against Billericay Town. Sophie Quirk (2), Anisha Hill
and Jazz Younger all scored first half goals as Portsmouth beat Crawley Wasps 4-1,
