Arsenal continue to lead the fledgling WSL table after notching up their
second successive 4-0 win, this time against Tottenham Hotspur at the
Emirates Stadium. After Beth Mead had fired them ahead in front of a
record crowd, Vivienne Miedema netted a goal in each half and Rafaelle
Souza scored her first goal for the club.
Manchester Utd join the Gunners on six points, thanks to a 2-0
victory away to West Ham Utd. Both goals came in a five minute spell
early in the second half, Luis Garcia giving Marc Skinner’s side the lead and
Hannah Blundell adding the second goal.
Aston Villa meanwhile kept up their impressive start by beating Leicester City 2-0
to complete a trio of clubs on six points. Rachel Daly put them in front from the penalty spot in
the third minute with her third goal in two matches, and Emily Gielnik sealed the points with
the second goal late on.
Following their surprise defeat on the opening day of the season, Champions Chelsea
faced a tough second match against Manchester City but came through the test with a 2-0
victory. Fran Kirby broke the deadlock three minutes before half time with her second goal in
as many matches, before Maren Mjelde netted the second from the penalty spot midway
through the second half.
The Merseyside derby on Sunday night emphatically went the way of Everton with a
3-0 victory against Liverpool. Megan Finnigan put them ahead after nine minutes and Jess
Park made it two just after the half hour. Hanna Bennison rounded of the scoring for the
Toffees with the third goal, three minutes from time.
Brighton & Hove Albion meanwhile bounced back from an opening defeat to beat
Reading FC Women 2-1. Lee Geum-Min
