Cardiff City Women have moved a further step closer towards a potential league and cup
‘double’ when they reached the Final of the Genero Adran Trophy by defeating The New
Saints 3-1 in their semi final on Sunday.
The visitors went into the game in good form in recent weeks and having secured a
place in the top four of the Genero Adran Premier and after a goalless first half, TNS took the
lead through a goal from Caitlin Chapman. It looked as though it might be their day as City
missed a penalty but just three minutes later, Manon Pearce brought them level. Siobhan
Walsh then sent City ahead for the first time with eight minutes remaining and moments
later, Phoebie Poole atoned for the penalty miss by scoring the decisive third goal, which
finally saw them safely over the line.
Cardiff City’s opponents in the Final will Cardiff Met Women who also won 3-1
against Aberystwyth Town in the other semi final. The Archers took a tenth minute lead
through Ellie Preece and Tija Richardson made it two just ahead of half time. Emily Allen
put Met in a commanding position as she put them three goals ahead, two minutes into the
second half, before Amy Jenkins netted what turned out to be a consolation for Aberystwyth.
The Final, which will be a repeat of last year’s, will be played on Sunday 12th March at
a venue yet to be announced.
The two main protagonists in the North Division title race both recorded victories to
leave things as they were ahead of their games. Connah’s Quay Nomads maintained their
one point lead as they won 1-0 away to CPD Y Rhyl 1879. Substitute Elena Harley settled
matters in the Nomads’ favour by scoring the only goal of the game, nineteen minutes from
time. Wrexham stay on their heels in
