Spot-on Partick oust Motherwell
The only all-SWPL 1 tie in the Third Round of the SWF Scottish Women’s Cup went all the
way to penalties and Motherwell, beaten finalists in 2018, were knocked out by Partick
Thistle after the teams had shared a 2-2 draw.
Holders Glasgow City, who are looking to lift the trophy for the tenth time, enjoyed
a smooth passage into the last sixteen with a 9-0 victory over Queen’s Park and theirs is
one of only two Fourth Round ties which are known, they will be up against Hamilton
Academical who went better on the day by scoring fourteen times against Inverness
Caledonian Thistle.
The other known tie is an all-Thsitle affair with Boroughmuir Thistle, 6-2 winners
over Renfrew, being paired with Partick Thistle.
SWPL 1 leaders Rangers won 14-1 against Stenhousemuir and an Old Firm tie is
in prospect, as they must meet the winners of the postponed tie between Edinburgh City
and Celtic. Heart of Midlothian also progressed confortably with a thirteen goal tally
against Gleniffer Thistle.
Spartans were another team to record double figures, at the expense of Morton,
whilst the other tie to be played on Sunday saw Gartcairn defeat East Fife 5-2 and they will
travel to either St Johnstone or eight times winners Hibernian.
Seven ties are still yet to be decided, whilst the Fourth Round ties are set to be played
on Sunday 13th February.
