Sunday’s results have left Arsenal and Manchester Utd jointly at the top
of the Barclays WSL, with exactly the same playing record after four matches.
Arsenal occupy top spot on alphabetical order following their 2-0
victory away to Liverpool. The damage was inflicted in the opening quarter
of the game, Lia Walti and Frida Maanum scoring the goals to seal a fourth
straight win for the Gunners, as well as another clean sheet, and condemn the
Reds to a third defeat in a row.
United had started the day as leaders on goal differemce and
maintained their own perfect start with a 1-0 success at Leicester City. Nikita Parris netted the
only goal of the game in the 33rd minute as United continued their best start to a season in the
top flight.
Chelsea also extended their winning run to four matches and keep pace with the top two
as they also won on the road, 2-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion. The first half was goalless
but just before the hour mark, Beth England broke the deadlock by giving Chelsea the lead and
they sealed the points with four minutes remaiming, as Pernille Harder scored her third goal in
two league matches.
Everton are heading the chasing teams after their 1-0 win away to Aston Villa. Lucy
Graham earned the Toffees their third win in four league matches when she scored the decisive
goal, shortly before the hour.
West Ham Utd produced a unique result in the WSL over the weekend, being the only
home team to record a victory, however they had to withstand a second half fightback when
beating Reading FC Women 3-2. For the second match running, the Hammers got off to a fast
start and took the lead after four minutes through Dagny Brynjarsdottir, before Viviane Asseyi
hit a quickfire double to put them three ahead by
the half hour. Charlie Wellings gave Reading hope Aston Villa 0
