KEYNSHAM TOWN LADIES 4
Secretary’s Notes
Today we welcome Chichester and Selsey to the AJN Stadium for what should
be a good competitive game which we hope all will enjoy. You may see a couple
of names from the past on our squad list. Give them a cheer.
Last weekend following unavailability of regular first team players, due to
sickness and injury, we sent a team of very young players to Ipswich with a few
experienced older players. Every one of those players stepped up to the mark
after a long 5 hour journey to Felixstowe where Ipswich play. They were all
magnificent and we are very proud of every player who went and showed good
team commitment. Our captain was exceptional. Ipswich have an ex-WSL
experienced goalkeeper and we were the first team this season to put goals by
her, two in fact and a third was tipped over the bar. Ipswich fans commented on
social media about the tenacity of our players right through until the final
whistle. As Albert Einstein said “You never fail until you stop trying.” They never
stopped.
On Thursday evening all clubs in the League had a zoom meeting with the
esteemed Dame Sue Campbell, she who promised each club £10,000 4 years
ago which has yet to materialise and shows no likelihood of doing so. The
meeting concerned future strategy of the FAWNL and was under strict embargo
so I can say no more except watch this space. Dame Sue was off for her gin and
tonic when the meeting finished and I was off for my cheddar and cider! I think
Plymouth drank their cider during the meeting even when their camera was
switched on! I kept mine off. I don’t think I am in breach of the embargo in
telling you that.
We seem to receive a lot of things under embargo these days. Maybe it is to
make us Club Secretaries feel more important in our Secret Squirrel role. Some
are connected to cup draws which the FA don’t want revealed until they have
been able to publicise them which is fair enough. We have a bye in the League
Plate competition. All other cup games you should now find listed in the fixture
list which is printed further on in the programme. Next time I will be testing you
all on the history of floodlights!
There is going to be an award for the best programme this season so we will do
our best. We won it once in previous years but that was due to the amazing
efforts of one Geraint Pritchard who sadly is no longer with us. The trophy
presented to us we gave to his family.
