City and Celtic reach Final

This season’s Biffa Scottish Women’s Cup Final
will be between Celtic and Glasgow City after both
sides came through well contested semi finals on
       Sunday.
First up in the double header at Falkirk,
Celtic took on Hearts who went into the game with
an extra incentive with the news that the Final will
       be held at Tynecastle Park.
Celtic found it difficult to break down a
resilient Hearts side which stood firm under
       pressure, and goalkeeper Charlotte Parker-Smith
was in outstanding form with a string of good
saves to keep her side on level terms.
Normal time could not produce a winner,
and the pattern continued in the first period of
extra time, but early in the second period, Hearts’
resistance was broken as Charlie Wellings made Izzy Anderson of Celtic challenges Hearts’ Shona Cowan
the breakthrough, slotting home after a cut back (Colin Poultney/collargeimages.co.uk).
       by Mengyu Shen.
Before Hearts could recover, a deflected cross into the area was latched onto by Wellings,
who duly slid her shot past Parker-Smith for a second goal to put the seal on a 2-0 victory.
Glasgow City played Partick Thistle in the second semi final and got off to a flying start, as
a corner was deflected into her own net by a Thistle defender. Thistle’s response was a quick one,
also from a corner as Cheryl McCulloch rose highest at the far post to power home a header.
Another corner led to City going back in front just eight minutes later; the initial kick was
half cleared but returned across goal by Vital Kats and Lauren Davidson was on hand to score
       from close range.
Clare Shine and Priscilla Chinchilla both had efforts saved for City, whilst Rachel
Donaldson shot wide at the other end. City held on to their one-goal advantage until eleven
minutes from the end, when Ole Fulutudilu was played through and she drove into the area
before setting up the simplest of chances for Chinchilla to tuck home and round off a 3-1 win. It
was the start of a memorable day for Chinchilla, for in the evening she was named as the first ever
PFA Scotland Women’s Player of the Year.
       Poland to host Scotland qualifier
Scotland will travel to Poland next month to face Ukraine in the rescheduled FIFA Women’s
       World Cup 2023 qualifier.
The Stadion Miejski, in Rzeszow, will host the Group B encounter on Friday, 24th June –
with a kick off time still to be confirmed.
Pedro Martinez Losa’s squad go into the game on the back of an impressive performance
and narrow defeat to Spain in April and sit second in their group after six games.
The Scottish FA’s Head of Girls’ and Women’s Football, Fiona McIntyre, told
www.scottishfa.co.uk: “We are pleased to have clarity on the fixture and can now proceed with
       plans for the trip.
“I think everyone who was at Hampden for the visit of Spain – for what was a record
competitive home attendance – will have been heartened by the display against world class
opposition. We showed no fear and no lack of quality.
“I know Pedro and the team will do everything they can to maintain that momentum
       against Ukraine.”
