Ellen breaks record in England rout

       England 20 Latvia 0
       at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster
Record after record tumbled at the Keepmoat Stadium as England took another step
towards confirming their qualification for the World Cup.
It was a record margin of victory for the Lionesses but the prize of becoming
England’s leading all-time goalscorer went to Ellen White, who scored three times to
take herself past Kelly Smith and to 48 goals in 101 appearances.
All in all, no less than four different players scored hat-tricks in what was a
one-sided farce of a match between two extremely mismatched teams.
None of that was England’s fault, of course, and their attitude from the very start
was one of all-out attack against a side they had already piled ten past a couple of
       months earlier.
Beth Mead got the ball rolling in the third minute and White then scored her
record equalling goal with a strike from the edge of the area. Just three minutes later,
the record was hers as she slid in a cross from Georgia Stanway. Mead then scored her
second and, after Lauren Hemp drove in her first goal for her country, Mead became
the first player to complete her hat-trick in the 23rd minute.
Ella Toone then got in on the act and Hemp netted her second to leave her side
eight goals ahead at the interval.
After the break, White netted her third goal and Stanway took the scoreline into
double figures from the penalty spot. With goalkeeper Mary Earps watching on from
the other end - and maybe should have been counted amongst the attendance - Jess
Carter scored her first international goal and Beth England, who earlier had a goal
disallowed, got on the scoresheet with a header on the hour.
Jill Scott headed in the next goal, bringing England level with their previous
record win against Hungary back in 2005, and Alessia Russo duly provided a new
highest score, becoming another player to get her first England goal.
Hemp scored her hat-trick goal five minutes later, before four goals came in a
five minute period. Jordan Nobbs became the tenth scorer on the night before Russo,
winning only her second cap, netted twice in quick succession to become the fourth
hat-trick scorer on the night. England then scored her second goal and the rout was
completed two minutes from time as Hemp notched her fourth, and number 20 on the
       night.
