The last three remaining Second Round ties were played on Sunday,
completing the draw for this weekend’s Third Round matches.
The tie between Southampton Women and London
Bees had originally been abandoned due to an injury, with the Bees
leading 2-0 at the time. The match was replayed on Sunday and the Bees went on to book their
place in the next round with a 3-0 victory. Juliet Adebowale, Bolu Fisher and Nikita Whinnett
scored the goals which see their side go through to play Lewes in the Third Round.
Watford meanwhile defeated Crawley Wasps 6-0 in a clash between two Southern
Premier Division clubs and they now travel to Crystal Palace. Helen Ward gave Watford the
lead from the penalty spot and they went on to add further goals through Andria Georgiou, Flo
Fyfe, Ward and Poppy Wilson as well as an own goal.
Liskeard Athletic faced a very difficult task against Oxford Utd and so it proved, the
Southern Premier Division side scoring thirteen times past their South West League opponents.
Carly Johns led the scoring with a hat-trick and there were doubles from Sarah King and Leah
Burridge, whilst Riva Casley, Naomi Cole, Daisy McLachlan, Iesha Swaby and Lacy-Jai Liggett
also got on the scoresheet.
The latest round of group matches in the UEFA Women’s
Champions League has seen both Arsenal and Chelsea move a
step closer towards the knockout stages.
Arsenal were first in action on Wednesday night with a
hard earned 1-0 victory against Juventus. Vivianne Miedema
scored the only goal of the game in the seventeenth minute to
give Arsenal a result which means they need two points from two
games to secure qualification.
Victory at Real Madrid would have guaranteed a quarter final place for Chelsea but
they are in the same position as Arsenal, needing two more points, after finishing level at 1-1.
Caroline Weir pounced on a defensive mistake, intercepting a pass from Ann-Katrin Berger
before rolling the ball back into the empty net to put Real ahead nine minutes before half time
but on the hour mark, Chelsea were awarded a penalty and although Guro Reiten’s initial shot
hit the post, the ball cannoned back in off GROUP A P W D L F A Pts GD
