                                FOWEY - whatever you do don't say it like it is written. Locals get grumpy if you say it wrong;
                                just say it as FOY.

                                It’s a very pretty estuary village with very narrow streets, and when I say narrow I really mean

                                narrow. If a car came we had to stand with our backs to the wall and make sure the wheels
                                didn’t run over our toes.

                                A famous author once lived there; Daphne Du Maurier, who wrote one

                                particularly scary book called ‘The Birds’ which was made into a film.

                                Just look at the statue of a huge bird they put up - even the statue is really scary.

                                I kept close to Grandad as he had his walking pole with him and could wave it
                                about to protect me.

                                Lunch was needed but the place we went into had problems with some ovens, but

                                they were able to serve up a good meal.

                                The weather was not too good but we looked at the boats and the shops and Grandma was able
                                to go into her favourite shop and buy some Christmas presents - I stayed outside with Grandad

                                while she went in with Uncle Mark; I think we would have been a bit like bulls in a china shop.
