Margaret was a miracle, plain and simple. To all the staff on the neuro
unit she surpassed all estimates of life expectancy, she overcame every
next obstacle the medics put in her path. She continued to fight against
the odds and on day 305 she is STILL here and still fighting. She will
never again have the life she had, do the things she was able to do and
she will have to accept that life will be governed by her disability and
need residential care. The latter she’ll fight against ‘til she takes her last
breath but we still have her and all the changes are liveable and some-
thing to work with unlike death which is final and has no future.
I have found a new understanding of life and a new appreciation of the
light, embracing what we have, dwelling on what we don’t have is a
waste.
Margaret is alive, we can grieve what she has lost
along the way but focus on the new journey, its
lessons, celebrate the highs, move on from the
lows and rejoice in God. On a humorous note
however I think Margy’s stubborn self could learn
from the message in Romans 12:3 “Have a right
and modest view of yourself.” In conclusion I look
to Romans 8:28 where God assures us that He
works for the good of those who love Him. “And
we know that all things work together for good to
those who love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose".
